I bought this mouse about a month ago primarily for use with my computer hooked up in my living room. This mouse is perfect to use from the couch, standing in the kitchen, or wherever!





Last week, I had to travel for work to give a couple presentations. I brought the mouse along, and it worked like a charm. It allowed me to freely walk around the room advancing slides, and even move the mouse cursor while standing in the back of the room!





The only thing I am not thrilled about is changing batteries. I left it on on my trip home last week (there is a on/off switch on the bottom) and the batteries died. Integrated rechargeable batteries would make this invaluable!

I am still amazed at how cheaply I picked this up - most five button scrollwheel mice are more expensive than this mouse, which has a button that activates its gyros, so that it works without mousepad. You activate by either holding down a sixth button, or by double-clicking the sixth button. I don't have a Mac, so I'm unsure as to its compatibility there, but it worked out of the box with my Debian Linux Desktop, and my Windows XP and Windows 7 laptop (professionally downgraded for my own stability needs). It's accurate, and small enough to fit into your pocket. The USB wireless adapter fits into the mouse at the base with a push-click in, and it came with a small padded cloth bag with zipper. The wireless USB adapter is smaller than a mini-BIC (or similar brand) lighter. The USB receiver doesn't require any external power source, and the mouse itself requires 2 AAA batteries. I cannot comment on battery life, since I primarily use the mouse as my traveling "I don't know if I will get myself a flat surface to use" device.





A good application for this would be for presentation software, so you're not forced to stand at a podium, or in any particular area. I'm unsure about total range, but I imagine it's got to be about 30 feet maximum, which means realistically 10 or 15 feet to maintain maximum accuracy - but this is speculation and untested.





The only bad side to this mouse is that the three additional buttons are on the bottom side of the scroll wheel and abut each other, so they are a little difficult to get used to, especially since the gyro button is underneath the mouse. These are minor complaints - it's perfect as a scroll wheel optical mouse, and was priced as such, nevermind the wireless and 3rd capabilities.





In short, for a traveler, or someone who's sick of wires all over the place, this is the mouse you MUST buy.

I am very happy with this product. My family uses a computer in place of a television and we stream programs from the internet - so, I needed something that could function similarly to a remote. This works great! In combination with an on-screen keybaord (Windows already has this installed under the "assesibility" menu), we can browse websites and control playback from the couch - works great! Plus, it won't do anything until you press a button on the underside to activate the "air" mode, so when you set it down, it doesn't click anything on its own. The range is great, and it is pretty amazing how well it reads your movements. You don't have to be pointing the thing at the computer - you don't even have to be facing the computer! Not much to say really apart from it appears well constructed and worked straight out the package. Why pay more for branded when you can have this at a fraction of the cost.





As as side note: For MacBook users wishing to use this to connect up an external monitor, and use that monitor in its native resolution as their sole viewing device, you will need to set the MacBook to mirror the screen in the display settings. Then close the laptop lid to put the machine to sleep, then remove and replace a USB device (keyboard/mouse) that is connected to it to wake the machine back up. Because the MacBook lid is still closed, the sole screen to come to life will be the external one and it will run in its native resolution, rather than mirroring whatever resolution the MacBook is capable of. Crazy solution to what should be a standard action, but that's Apple for you!

I got it for replacing an overpriced similar adaptor from Apple and it did the job great saving me $20. I also kind of secretly hoped that I would be able to use my existing DVI-to-VGA adaptor, yet no magic here -- you can plug the VGA adaptor just fine, however there's no signal coming to the monitor even though it appeared in Display Preferences on my MacBook Pro, correctly identified. I am still happy, as for the money I saved I could buy a dedicated Mini DisplayPort-to-VGA adaptor, which turned out to be even more convenient as I can carry it around while the DVI adaptor is permanently attached to the big monitor on my desktop.

 "It Blows Air. Yes, I'm Captain Obvious. But Powerful Enough?" 2010-04-21

Alright, so obviously you know what it does and you're probably wondering if it is powerful enough. I also wanted to know this before buying the product.





Here is what most people do before buying this product:





Many people out there may try to blow air through their mouth. This is a bad idea since you will obviously get small specks of saliva on the lens which will make it harder to clean.





Some people decide that they will only use a lens pen or microfiber cleaning cloth. From what I understand (and this is purely unscientific) excessive cleaning will actually degrade the quality of the front element over time (or even the rear element). Don't get me wrong. I use a microfiber cleaning cloth as well. However, I use it as a last resort if the air blower doesn't remove the visible particles.





This leads me to this product. Is it powerful enough? I mean it is intended for optical and computer equipment (keyboards). Yes and no. Some people will like the quick rush of air. I personally do not think it is nearly as powerful as it should be. It has served me well so far but on occasion it proves to be rather unpowerful. You may find some dust particles stick to the lens even after use. That is when I pull out the microfiber cloth.





Recommendation:


Yes, I'd buy it bearing in mind that I may have to whip out my trusty microfiber cleaning cloth. This is a moderately powerful blower that I'll probably be keeping. I hope Giottos comes out with something more potent in the future since I don't like cleaning down the lens by hand (for reasons mentioned above).

I bought this purifier in March 2009, so I have had it for over a year now. It worked well at first. I could see that it was collecting all kinds of dust, as I had to vacuum the filters every couple of months. About two months ago we have noticed a slight rattle coming from the purifier at high speed. Progressively the rattle became louder and louder, even at low speeds. About a week ago we had to turn it off for good, because now it sounds like a tractor idling in the corner of the room.


Oh, well... I have filled out the warranty for online at [...] (yes, it appears that all warranty issues are handles by a third party). We will see how Honeywell (or the company to which warranty support was outsourced) handles this. I hope they will not give me a run around in attempt to try to get out of the 5 year warranty. If they handle it in the usual way most companies handle warranty returns now, I foresee $30-$40 shipping bill, just to ship it back to them. That is on the product which I paid $[...] in the first place, which has "The New QuietClean" logo on the box, and comes with 5-year warranty.


At the same time we bought this one we also bought a similar tower purifier made by Hunter. This works fine to this day, and is still as quiet as the day we bought it.

I was not sure if I should try this because of so many people saying the fan was noisey. I have excellent hearing and I can testify that the fan is not that noisy. Sure, you can hear it a "little" on low, a little more on med. High is not a "jet" engine, it's still tollerable when the tv is on. The cleaning this machine does is fantastic. I have had it almost a month now....I dusted before I started using it and still haven't had to dust again. The air is so clean smelling. Because we smoke, I checked the filters in ten days and they were a little dirty, I cleaned them anyway just to keep the crud from smoking to not build up. Cleaning is so simple!! I run it on low all the time and it still does an excellent job on cleaning the air, even with our smoking. It is worth paying a little more for this type of machine, and no replacement cost for filters doesn't hurt my feelings at all, they are "spendy". I use to use two Ionic Breezes and together they did not come near doing the cleaning job this one machine on low does, and the air is soooo much cleaner. You can't even see particals floating around when a beam of sunlight comes in!! I highly recommend this machine!!

In terms of the effectiveness of actually cleaning the air it's very effective as long as it moves back and forth. I've done some air quality testing and it seems far more effective when the unit oscillates versus when it's pointed in one direction. The unit worked great at first but after a few months of use it makes an annoying clicking noise as it oscillates. Sounds like it gets caught on something every time it moves back and forth. I've tried taking it apart and lubricating the oscillating parts but still makes the clicking noise. I would not buy again.

I sent it right back where it came from without even opening it, as well as the two free sheet outer filters to their source, but my credit card has not yet reflected a refund and it has been about two months.





Still needing a filter, I went to the Honeywell website and ordered the proper filter and it arrived faster and is working like a charm at a considerable discount compared to stores, if you can even find them. I would not use the other company ever again but had a good experience with the Honeywell Co.

What's interesting about this product is the fact that I bought one (from here of course) and it's still sitting in my storage room. Why? Well, that's the interesting part. I bought this for my Honeywell 50250 99.97% Pure HEPA Round Air Purifier, which is five years old. It is still running with the original HEPA filter it came with and I have not had to change it.
