Evaporative coolers are best suited for those who live in dry climates and even so, they do not cool as well as conventional air-conditioners. This portable evaporative cooler is best suited for small rooms when the conventional air conditioner is not adequate or not working properly. I've been using mine for 2 days now and it is adequate for my needs. I just overestimated how much cooling it would provide at first. The HEPA and ion filter makes the air smell clean and fresh which is perfect for people with asthma.

the swamp cooler did not even get near my expectations. i bought it thinking it might be more than a fan but i poured the right amount of ice and water in and all it was was a huge fancy fan that filters your air. but the thing is that when i returned it i shipped it friday from WA and it arrived in CA around tuesday and they returned my money right away for that i am very glad. thanks for being fair sellers. i will likely buy a real air conditioner from your sight soon.

I didn't expect the AF-330 to cool a large room, a medium room, or even a small room. All I was expecting was that if it was pointed directly at me, I'd feel cooler than room temperature air. Didn't happen.
I tried numerous approaches--with cold water that had been in the fridge all day, with ice, next to an open window, even all of three--but the result was always disappointing. I'm willing to bet if I had a temperature gauge there wouldn't be more than a 3 degree difference between air temperature and what was put out by the AF-330.
Also, I think I have a realistic idea of what swamp coolers are supposed to do. My friend has one that he bought at Lowes (can't remember the brand) which actually provides noticeable relief.
On the plus side, I suppose the air does have a clean smell coming out of it.

As with other reviewers, this unit provided no cooling for me at all, not even a half a degree, even after running it for hours. The air blowing out of the unit was basically room temperature, never cool. As others have noted, evaporative coolers don't blow air as cold as an AC, but it should be cool. I tried it with cold water from the fridge, the ice tray filled with ice, sitting next to a partially open window (this is needed with evaporative coolers to draw in dry air). I'm in Denver and the air was pretty dry. There are two main reasons I'd guess this unit is ineffective: 1) Quality control at the factory is poor. Some people say it works great, but so many people seem to get no cooling at all in dry climates that I say it's a gamble. 2) Poor design. The size of the filter where air is sucked in is small, no more than 12x14 inches. If you go to a home center and browse the coolers there you'll see that most have quite large intake vents, and the big ones have multiple intake vents (maybe it's in proportion to the power of the fan). Also, this unit has a pad (kind of like a wide belt) that rotates down into the water and up across the intake vent, but it must not be very effective at absorbing water. Most other evap coolers, even the portable kinds, use aspen filters (or similar synthetic filters) and pump the water to the top of the filter so it trickles down and saturates the filter.
I returned it immediately.
Note: Air-n-Water charges a 15% restocking fee even if the cooler doesn't work. Just don't bother.

When you get an air conditioner you expect something that works the same like your old electricity wasting product, but without the electricity bills piling up. If you are expecting this to replace it, you are in for a rude awakening. This is not what you expect whatsoever. It works like it says: cool, but is it really as cool as you think? On a scale from 1, being a regular fan, and 10, taking a cold shower, I would most likely give it a 3'ish. I'm not trying to insult the product at all; I am trying to give the best review that I can so that no one falls into the same fate as I have.
