I bought this after RCN increased its rental fee by $3.00. After all of the years that I had the leased one, I figured that I paid more than $200 for a cable modem that cost $23.00 new. Wish I'd bought one a lot sooner. I have Vonage, and setting things up sometimes is difficult because of the Vonage box. Not so with this modem. Setup and installation couldn't have been easier. A prompt screen came up to complete the installation, and it has been working perfectly. The only downside was having to deal with the surly RCN employee today when I took their equipment back. A second person in the office was also surly; perhaps it's in the job description.

After viewing MANY online descriptions of this same exact modem model from major online sellers, ALL had a top mounted standby switch for added security. All sold for $79.99. I chose Amazon for the "sale" price which was discounted $27 off Amazon's regular price of $79.99. Well, now I know why! This modem doesn't have the standby switch. No Security. NO THANKS! And now I have to ship it back at my expense. Amazon's description seems to be meant to be misleading just to make a sale. This wasn't a deal after all. SHAME ON YOU AMAZON!

Bought this to replace Comcast leased modem. I have a Mac so no software needed - Just plug in. Didn't even have to call Comcast. The Comcast "Install Wizard" automatically popped up, and it was easy to activate. I like the energy efficiency rating too!

This item replaced an older Motorola Surfboard that I was leasing from my ISP. My lease cost me over $60US/year, so this purchase saves me $8 in the first year alone. Works perfectly, has been more reliable than the one I was leasing. Speeds seem faster too. I highly recommend this product to anyone who is currently leasing a cable modem. Great! Great! Great!

Modem worked great, but it required a call to Comcast to provision it. They don't care about any thing else except what they get paid for. So after provision it still didn't work, but they dumped me and said their part worked. They had told me to reset my wireless router and that was the problem. I had to re-set that up. Then all was well.
