This Motorola Netopia dsl modem is model 2210-02-1006 which is used by at&t/bellsouth dsl techs in the southeast area of the U.S (which includes Mississippi). It does have heat related problems so set up a small fan to make it last longer. I'm on my 3rd one so there's no need in paying AT&T $75 each time for a new one when you can get it here for less than half the price.

This thing is a nightmare! It overheats so fast, and when it overheats, it dies. So I have to have it turned on it's side with a fan running next to it 24/7 to keep it somewhat alive. It seems like every time someone walks in the front door it looses it's connection. Or after a couple of hours of usage it decides it feels like "hey, I've been running for a couple hours now, I need a break" then die.... It's really a headache to deal with, my suggestion is get something better.

I bought this to replace my old modem of the exact same model. My old one lasted 3 years, then began to lose connection before finally failing to recognize a DSL connection. This modem is a direct replacement for the item AT&T gives us in western NC. This new one is currently working as expected, and is very warm to the touch at all times like the old one. I think it is a heat issue that is killing these modems, and buying one on Amazon is so much cheaper than what AT&T will charge you! We shall see how long this one lasts!

I LMAO when I read one of the reviews on here - great modem if you want to burn your home down for insurance purposes and melt the face off your neighbors pet. Pretty funny comments.



But the sad fact is that this modem is a POS. I reckon mine set an all-time lonjevity record - i've had mine since Summer 07 in Florida (Land Of Power Outages & Lightning Strikes). I always left it on, plugged into my big-brick UPC battery backup system.



But several times a month I'd see that dang HAL9000 Red Light From Hell start burning and I had to go thru the routine of unplugging the power cable & the phone line, waiting 30 seconds and replugging them and punching the reset button. Another fun feature is that several times a year I had to contact the ATT 888 number and go thru a Nazi Gestapo interrogation to get it running again.



I went to check my emails this a.m. but the modem was completely dark - checked the power, reset button, said "open the pod bay doors HAL", yada yada - nope it was dead. When this modem finally STB on me, I called Apu Nahasapeemapetalan at 888-321-2375 and they said it was out of warranty and they're sending me a new modem for only $76. Nice, huh? I told them NFW, I'd buy it for less on the internet. A simple search on Bing for Motorola DSL Modems got me to good ol' Amazon. My new modem will be here in less than a week.



I will take the advice of the reviews here and keep the modem upside down, keep it turned off when not in use and buy that cheap fan at Wally Mart.

This is terrible. I've been through 2 already. It runs hot, drops connection, causes you to deal with AT&T tech support. I've had two technicians come out to my home and gone through 2- 2wire's as well.



Bottom line: if you actually want to use your internet - this modem isn't for you.
