 "Pricey; adequate sound quality" 2010-04-03

By QuickThoughts06 (St. Germain, WI United States)

Have owned the wireless AIRSA10 for about six weeks having purchased it through Amazon's Warehouse Deals at about 60% of its $120 list price. The speaker comes with a transceiver so getting it to work with my Sony BDV-E500 Home Theatre System was simple. Snap the transceiver into its slot, set the switch to the same frequency as the HTIB, plug it in and turn it on. The main system is on the same floor about 35-40 ft from the AIRSA10 with a wall in between. There's no problem with getting a signal. The sound is adequate in a quiet area such as an office/study, bedroom, or in my case, the kitchen. It is not particularly loud and there's very little bass due to the small speakers so it is no 'boom box'. I find it odd that the volume control goes from 1 - 30, but it needs to be set at 18 or above to hear anything. In the kitchen, the sound does cut out if the microwave is on, something stated in the owner's manual; other appliances don't seem to affect it. When the TV is on, I can listen to the news while fixing dinner. A nice convenience is that in 'party' mode, the buttons on the unit will start/restart a CD or DVD, flip through tracks and scan through pre-set radio channels on the main unit. It would be nice if the buttons were back-lighted--it's hard to see the small print without looking directly down on the top in a well lit room. Overall, I think the unit is a bit pricey. Its sound quality is par with bedroom clock radio systems. Two improvements would be rechargeable battery operation to take it outside on the patio and a handle to carry it. If you are looking for a Sony wireless speaker to add to your sound system for use in another part of the house, this works.

 "Worth the money" 2010-03-31

By Mike (Dacula, Ga)

Easy to use if you read the directions and set it up accordingly.

Pros: my wife left it out in the rain for 3 days while we were out of town. Dumped the water out of it, let it dry out, works as well as it ever did.

Sound is crystal clear when you have a full signal.

Cons: You have to purchase a transmitter seperately. Volume is loud enough for indoors and outdoors on the deck but could be louder. Works well away from transmitter but more walls= less signal strength.

Worth the money.

"Not compatable with HDMI connection!!" 2010-03-28

By Norman Simon (Levittown, NY)

If your main Sony Receiver is connected either via HDMI or coaxial cable, the remote wireless Sony AirA10 S-Air will not work and consequently will not receive any audio signal. The audio output on the main unit must be connected only using the analog cable connection. Sony does not make this known until you find a footnote in their receiver manual that informs you of this. With today's trend being more and more connections being made via HDMI, to work with only analog connection does not make sense. Amazon, however, thus far has been very good in handling the return of the item to them.

 "Stinko" 2010-03-02

By Adam Ray (Oakland, CA)

Good news, bad news, and then good new again! on this Sony product.

Good news - it arrived and was easy to get going, I found.

Bad news, it only works in the same room with the main unit. In any other room, it regularly came "unlinked" from the main unit.

Good news again! I'm finally done with Sony products. Really, I have no idea why I bother. I now own a TV with power supply issues, a receiver that is going dead, and a wireless sound system that's totally inadequate. Liberated. I'm free.

 "Be careful!" 2010-02-05

By Michael J. Raven (Laredo, TX)

Just purchased and installed this system. Easy to setup. Good sound when sub unit is within 55-60 feet. Be careful though. I have a masonry house with steel window frames and they upset the performance. Also found I had to set the receiving unit higher above the floor or someone walking by will cut the receiving signal. I would buy the unit again, but don't expect performance over 60 feet unless it is a clear line of sight to the base sending unit.
